One of Germany’s most historic library, the Duchess Anna Amalia library in Weimar, has been severely damaged by fire that swept through the top floor of the library as well as the roof (links (1), (2) & (3) to news reports) on Friday morning (Singapore time). Quite a substantial size (about 30,000) of their rare collection was destroyed in the fire. Am hoping that those books that were rescued would be able to be preserved. Am hoping no such thing will happen to any of the libraries in Singapore, particularly the Rare Book Collection at the National Reference Library.
