Information World Review has a report that says that ten major international libraries have agreed to combine their digitised collections into a text-based archive hosted online by the not-for-profit Internet Archive. However, all the content hosted will be freely available to all online users.
The ten international libraries are: Carnegie Mellon University library, The Library of Congress, libraries from the Canadian universities of Toronto, Ottawa and McMaster, China’s Zhejiang University, The Indian Institute of Science, India’s International Institute of Information Technology, the European Archives and Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt.
I’m sure that we’ll be seeing more of such collaborations.
