Quite an “interesting article”:http://www.utne.com/magazine/newsstand/utne130_knowledge-for-sale.pdf (PDF File) about the current state of the American public libraries. Though the situation is not as dire in Singapore as it is in American, I believe that we may be slowly moving towards that. And the role of the librarian is changing quite drastically from what it once was.

Of note in the article is the point about libraries becoming more like amusement complexes (on the second page of the PDF file). I really hope the new National Library will not become an amusement centre, but instead we should aim to make it a place for people to come learn and share.
