- Libraries for Dummies:
Really hilarious site about a librarian’s experiences with ‘interesting’ readers who approach her reference counter. I read some of the posts and am highlighting a couple that had me burst out laughing: Conspiracies Revealed! and Mr Scary. But the most recent entry beats the other entries hands down. As I was reading the entries, there were flashbacks of the incidents that have happened to me at the counter over the 5 years that I’ve worked as a librarian as well as hearing from my colleagues their ‘interesting’ stories. “The UT library is undergoing a radical change, becoming more of a social gathering place more akin to a coffeehouse than a dusty, whisper-filled hall of records. And to make that happen, the undergraduate collection of books had to go.” This news article discusses the removal of some undergraduate libraries in the US in favor of online centers. Will the public libraries in Singapore be converted to online centers? Will librarians become jobless? For your comments. (via LISNews.com) - Alexandrian Public Library Launches IM Reference:
Another public library launches their IM Reference service. There is a PowerPoint presentation posted in the entry that was used to train the librarians on conducting IM Reference. Maybe we can get some learning points from the slides and use it as a reference when we eventually decide to launch IM Reference for NLB. (via Tame the Web)
