• Yotophoto:
A free/GNU FDL/Creative Commons image search engine. The search engine looks quite good, but you’ll still need to ensure that the images are indeed free-to-use or you might be be infringing copyright of someone. (via ResearchBuzz!)
  • Patrons steal hundreds of DVDs from libraries:
The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library has had hundreds of DVDs stolen from their shelves. Guess we’re facing the same problem in libraries around the world. What they’ll be doing is to put empty DVD cases on the shelves so that readers can still browse the covers, but the readers will need to collect the discs from the counter. It might minimise the number of losses, but it will definitely create quite a long queue at the circulation counter. Is there are better way to handle this? (via LISNews.com)
  • Redefining the Library:
Where NLB has the L2010, the British Library has their own version of it. The document shows the strategy that the British Library would be embarking on from 2005 - 2008. Some portions of their strategic thrusts is quite similar to NLB’s L2010.
  • iPods@MIT:
The MIT library is loaning iPods, with sample tracks from the music CD collection of the library, to the lecturers and students. If they like the selection, they can jot down the call number of the CD that’s shown on the screen of the iPod. Just a thought: we could loan out iPods at library@orchard and VAT@JRL to highlight our music CD collection at library@esplanade.

Hmm… what’s to stop the iPod users from downloading the tracks to their computers? That would raise some copyright issues, wouldn’t it?
