- A Service-able Catalogue
Interesting things are happening with catalogue at the University of Huddersfield. However, you’ll need to be using Firefox with the Greasemonkey plug-in installed to be able to see what is shown on the screenshots in the post. But it’s very neat and it might useful to the readers to inform them that the library too has the books that he/she is searching on Amazon.

The National Library of Australia is working with Flickr to allow individuals to include their images of contemporary Australia in the PictureAustralia service. This is a way to user contributions as well as a way to archive the country in pictorial form. Have a look at this Flickr tag on Australia Day.

Well, a librarian is considered as stressful an occupation as a fireman, policeman and teacher. According to the British report, what makes librarianship the most stressful is the lack of a support system to handle the stress.

A commentary in the Christian Science Monitor about how libraries are more than just collections of books. The libraries are places for readers, librarians and authors to be in a ‘quiet collaboration’. Even with the massive digitization efforts, library visitorships and the number of books published have been at record levels in 2005 so that would definitely not signal the doom of the physical library.

The University of California has released a report on its bibliographic infrastructure and how catalogs should be built, presented and managed. Good to see what the other libraries around the world are doing with their catalogs.
