  • Library 2.0: A View from the Third World
So far, most discussions on Library 2.0 has been from the West, where the focus for libraries are to offer access from anywhere, at anytime. However, the focus of libraries from developing countries is entirely different as their users might not have access to the Internet or even computers. In Singapore, the National Library Board is very actively working towards allowing the access of information from anywhere, at anytime. I guess it would work much better in Singapore as most Singaporeans have computers as well as access to the Internet. So, Library 2.0 might just work here. I’m looking at how the library can make use of what has been discussed in Library 2.0 to engage our users and provide information to them.

  • How Did Public Libraries Get Started?
Funny that the person wanting to find out about libraries didn’t approach a librarian to find out. But the answer given is quite good and a historical look at how public libraries came about.

  • This place is f#%@ing great!, or, Swearing in the library
Interesting look at some activities that are held and the language allowed in a new youth space in one of the public libraries in Queensland, Australia. They have game consoles (Xbox, Playstation and Gamecube), Nintendo DS games, and PCs with games and IM loaded. They also have a plasma TV with cartoons and music channels. They loan out DVDs and console games. They have youth-focused magazines available as well as graphic novels. They are going to have a karaoke party in the library on Australia Day.
