Maybe this is a good time for librarians to start thinking more like a business entity and use business methods such as marketing plans, SWOT, and trend spotting. This would allow us to stay ahead of the knowledge/information curve as we hurtle along at warp speed.

This article from Forbes talks about the ‘fluff’ adverts (be it print or commericals) that try to be funny or entertaining, but fail to convey the features and benefits of whatever product that is marketed. This applies to the marketing of library services as well. We might need to focus on what we market. Try not to be funny and/or entertaining and in the course of it, fail to tell people what the library services are. Sure, have some humor in our marketing materials, but not at the expense of the message.
