• Web Marketing and the New York Public Library
  A web marketer’s look at how the New York Public Library is making use of different marketing strategies to target different groups of customers.

  Many free pages of black and white pictures you can print out for kids to color. There is a wide variety of pictures of different topics such as animals, vehicles, planets, fairies, dragons, farming, school, sports and many more.

• Generation of online libraries
  A look at some online libraries that are currently or soon-to-be available. However, the two more commonly known online libraries are Google Book Search and Open Content Alliance. All the online libraries provide wonderful search facilities so you can look for the books you want just by typing in key words or phrases that appear in the book. One other project that you should look at is the Project Gutenburg Online Book Catalog, the first producer of free electronic books.
• What Will You Do Today?
  An article written by Rachel Singer Gordon in the recent issue of Library Journal on NextGen librarians and Library 2.0. I particularly like what she says under “Unblock the future” where it’s important to enable the user to access whatever information he/she wants from any means possible. With the increase in mobility and the use of mobile devices, the library would need to look at ways we can accomodate this technology. For one, NLB (my MPOW) is definitely embracing this where we offer SMS enquiry service. However, we still have some areas for improvement such as making our Web Catalogue more mobile-friendly, providing instant messaging enquiry service and maybe more blogs on specialist topics.
