- Cyber-Neologoliferation
Ever wanted to find out how the Oxford English Dictionary (O.E.D.) was compiled? This article in the New York Times Magazine provides a glimpses of what the editor and his team of lexicographers do in creating the world’s largest dictionary. The last edition, which is the 2nd edition and published in 1989, had 20 volumes with a total of 21,730 pages and weighed nearly 63kg (FYI: the first edition was published in 1928 and had 414,825 words). They are currently hard at work compiling the 3rd edition and it might be another 20 years or so before it’ll see the light of day. - Where are the Web 2.0 classes in libraries?
Janie from Library Garden bemoans the fact that libraries are not teaching the public about Web 2.0 such as the use of Blogger, Flickr, and RSS. For NLB, we currently don’t have courses that teach Web 2.0 and I’m not too sure if we would be doing so in the near future. However, I might consider incorporating some aspects of Web 2.0 in the library workshops that I conduct for students though they might actually know more about it than me.
- Guardian: Weekend Magazine Web 2.0 Special
