- Gaming in Libraries
Gaming hasn’t come to the public libraries in Singapore … yet! But I’m sure some of my colleagues would definitely have looked at bringing gaming into our public libraries. It’s important to remember that gaming is not only for teenagers and children and can be a great leveler for people of all ages to get together. Have a look at the gallery of people playing games on the Nintendo Wii.

Associated Press has put together a primer on what RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) is all about, particularly useful for librarians who are just getting into blogging, podcasting and videocasting.

Just discovered this companion blog for the official journal of the Reference and User Services Association of the American Library Association. From their site, “Its purpose is to disseminate information of interest to reference librarians, information specialists, and other professionals involved in user-oriented library services. This Web site serves as an online companion to the print edition”. There are some useful articles that I’ve flagged in my news reader for in-depth reading.

An article in inCite, a publication of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). I like this sentence “it’s the subtle way of getting reluctant readers through our doors, and showing them that turning pages is nearly as much fun as manoeuvring a joystick!”. I guess this is the ultimate aim of having gaming in libraries.
