Thus, the UK will be setting up a National Family and Parenting Institute next year to help parents and child care professionals help their children get a head start in life.
(via LISNews) - Man shot at Chicago library
A 20 year old man was shot inside the Chicago Public Library and is in serious to critical condition. Thankfully, such incidents have yet to happen in the public libraries in Singapore. Maybe because a discharge of firearms results in the death penalty even if you don’t hit anyone. Not sure if any murders have occurred in our public libraries previously. Will need to go find out from colleagues who have worked much longer than I have.
(via LISNews) - As more graphic novels appear in libraries, so do challenges
With an increase of graphic novels in libraries, there are challenges that libraries faced in terms of the content in them. The public libraries in Singapore also have increased our collection of graphic novels that’s available. We are also facing similar issues as more teens start to pick up graphic novels to read. Parents have written in to tell us about their objections such as nudity, sex scenes, foul language, and excessive violence and we had to remove these from the shelves.
