- Music Video in Library Setting (YouTube)
This music video of the song “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada is filmed in a library setting. It might even be filmed in a real library. Though I’ve yet to see a music video being shot in any of the public libraries in Singapore, we’ve got our fair share of publicity in sitcoms, drama serials, and game shows. Instead of music videos, we have band performances in the library.

Shows you that we get all kinds of weirdos in libraries, from peeping toms to sex perverts to book vandals. But the more common occurrence is of parents leaving their kids in libraries while they go shopping. I’ve handled a case of a five year old being left alone in the library by her mum, who happily went shopping. The mum was so happy shopping that she totally forgot about the library closing hours. The poor kid was crying and we had to comfort her as we had no way to contact the mum. Thankfully, the mum came back to library about half an hour after our closing with her many shopping bags. Only when she realised that we were closed that she became frantic about her daughter and banged on our doors. Quite traumatic for the little girl if I might add. She might not want to come to the library again.

Some parents of Shiloh Elementary School students want the book removed from the school library’s shelves and be placed under restricted with parent supervision. All because the book tells of a pair of male penguins taking care of Tango, a baby penguin. I’ve actually read this story during storytelling to kids. It’s actually a very heartwarming story. If you’re interested, you can find the book in the Children’s section of the public libraries. The call number is JP English RIC. You can check the availability status here.
(via LISNews) - Ways to Get Your Kids Reading
A good listing of ways to get your children to read. It doesn’t have to always be reading in relation to studies as it might instead kill his/her interest in reading. You should definitely allow your children to read books for fun and be a good example by reading yourself. Think we need to do more reading than watching television so as to motivate and encourage Matthew to read more. Thankfully, he loves books and visiting the library.
