Blogging Montage

Recently, a blogger, CK, released a report (PDF file) of the responses she gathered from other bloggers on “what is the greatest point of value they have received from blogging” in a survey she did. The cover of the report has a colorful montage of the responses provided. I’ve got to admit that some of these points were the very reasons I started blogging back in 2004.

As for NLB (my MPOW), we have slowly embraced the concept of blogging within the organization. There are currently four blogs that the public can access such as

  • High Browse Online - a blog on book reviews and recommendations from both librarians and the public
  • ASK! - a blog that highlights interesting questions that we receive through our ASK! Enquiry Service together with the answers.
  • Programmes@100 Victoria Street - A blog that highlights upcoming programmes, events and exhibitions at the National Library.
  • digi.talk - a blog that showcases the e-content that is available in our libraries and how you can access and use them.

Since we’re on the point of organizations that blog, a recent research paper by Northeastern University and Backbone Media determines what the reasons, conditions and factors that would make a blog successful. And the five critical factors are: culture, transparency, time, dialogue and an entertaining writing style and personalization. Guess we do need to work on the personalization portion as we currently don’t have a public face for the blogs that we run. Maybe we need a Scoble.

Well, if you want to find out more about blogging for your organisation, you can read the following books:

Just a thought, maybe we should make the librarians involved with blogging read the books. :)
