- How Deserted Was The Library
The renewal of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library at the University of Massachusetts has resulted in a much more vibrant scene in the library. In addition, the 28-storey academic library, has become a ‘hip’ to be seen in. This shows how important it is to create a library space that’s inviting and allows for social, cultural and intellectual interactions. That’s what NLB is trying to do to make the library the “Third Place” of the public after their home and workplace.

No … this is not about putting the librarian on show in a glass display. It’s about a dissatisfied patron posting the chat reference transcripts on her blog for all to see because of her perception of being given bad service. Well, this is the exact thing we need to take note of if NLB ever decides to provide IM reference services. But then again, bad service (real and perceived) at any point of our interaction, not necessarily just IM reference, with patrons might end up on their blogs.
