Blogging Librarian

According to this article by Marty Nemko (U.S. News and World Report, 18 December 2006), librarianship is one of the 25 careers that will be growing in demand in 2007. The reason: “even though anybody can do a Google search, for instance, librarians will be needed more and more to help us navigate all that digital information.”

Do read the other parts of the special report “Best Careers 2007” as it gives you a table of how the 25 careers rank in terms of salary. Unfortunately, a librarian’s salary is listed near the bottom of the table. There is also “A Day in the Life” of a librarian, which provides a very brief overview of what a librarian does.

Do note that this article only refers to American libraries and may not be representative of the situation in Singapore or anywhere else though I hope the public will be more appreciative of the work that librarians are doing in providing them their reading and information needs.
