Just a couple of days ago, I wrote about the possible demise of the librarian.

Now, DegreeTutor.com has written a rather long article with 33 reasons why librarians are still extremely important.

I’ve got to agree with all 33 points the writer, Will Sherman, has given. I’ll highlight those that I feel are the reasons why I believe librarians will always be around.

  • 1. Not everything is available on the internet
  • 4. The internet complements libraries, but it doesn’t replace them
  • 19. The internet isn’t DIY
  • 21. Librarians are the irreplaceable counterparts to web moderators
  • 23. The internet is a mess
  • 28. Libraries are stable while the web is transient
  • and the one I feel it’s most important

  • 33. Old books are valuable
