Four-Legged Mobile Library

I guess public libaries in Singapore can be considered very fortunate when we do mobile libraries in schools and at events as we are available to get a transport company to do the transportation of books for us.

Previously, I mentioned the ‘Camel Book Drive‘ in Africa, and today I read on BBC News that a university in Venezuela is using bibliomulas (book mules) to transport books to remote communities to encourage people to read.

In addition, the mules are also doubling up as cyber mules, cine mules and even medi mules. Currently, there is a limited mobile phone signal and this allows the volunteers from the university to bring a laptop along to allow the villagers to surf the Internet. There also plans to use the mules to transport medicines, which is something really difficult for the villagers that get now.

Really inspiring contributions from the university.
