Interesting article by Stephen Abrahm, VP of Innovation at SirsiDynix, on whether all the Web 2.0 ‘goodness’ can be used in the marketing of libraries.

Some suggestions from him include:

  • Using YouTube to showcase story hours and programmes
  • Adding OPAC, e-databases and Web links to Facebook and MySpace.
  • Using Flickr to put up photos from libraries and library programmes and events.
  • Getting everyone in the library to blog and podcast.
  • Contributing information about the library on Wikipedia.
  • Conducting online surveys through SurveyMonkey.
  • Connect professionally on LinkedIn.
  • And learning about Search Engine Optimization.
And there are more examples in the article.

Think this stuff will come in useful when I teach an introductory course on new media to my colleagues at the end of the year.
