Authors Share the Books That Got Them Reading

Publishers Weekly has an article on what were the books that first got some authors and celebrities interested in reading.

The authors and celebrities are participating in a US national awareness campaign, “What Book Got You Hooked?”, organized by First Book - a children’s literacy organization that provides new books to children from low-income families.

And here’s the top five books that created reader:

(1) Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene
(2) Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
(3) Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
(4) Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
(5) The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss.
You can see the rest of the Top 50 Books on the First Book website.

In addition to the Top 50 list, First Book also got the authors and celebrities to contribute their thoughts on their favorite books.

As for me, I don’t exactly remember what book it was that spurred me to love reading. But I do remember I loved to read the Hardy Boys and Famous Five series as well as any books about soccer. Surprisingly, I don’t recall reading much comics in my early years.
