- Dahl beats Rowling as young adults’ favourite author
Given that Harry Potter books have been selling really fantastically, it was quite surprising that Roald Dahl has beaten JK Rowling to the title of “most popular children’s author among young adults” in the UK. JK Rowling only came in fourth. CS Lewis and JM Barrie came in second and third respectively. CS Lewis is the author of The Chronicles of Naria series and JM Barrie is the creator of Peter Pan. And Enid Blyton, writer of the Famous Five series and Noddy, came in only tenth. Do go to the Guardian Unlimited article to see the rest of the top 10 list.

- At libraries, everything goes on DVD
An interesting look at what sort of DVDs moves in libraries in the US. Surprisingly, indie movies have a longer shelf lives than a hit movie as mentioned in the article. Will need to check with my colleague at library@esplanade if this applies to our Singaporean library users. And instructional and educational DVDs are still amongst the top 2 most requested categories. What’s big are also the foreign language movies such as those from Bollywood and Hong Kong. But I guess for Singapore’s case we should already have them given our multi-cultural country.

- Trapped in the Library SlotA Boston woman’s hand was stuck in the return slot while returning videos. They had to call 911 (emergency services) to free her. You can see a picture of the woman in this news article on Cape Cod Today. Not too sure if such a thing has happened with our book drops or not. Will be quite traumatic to have your hands stuck. Hope the lady would still visit the library.
