The Stranger, a newspaper in Seattle, Washington in the States, held their annual Genius Awards party in the Seattle Public Library.
As Jen Graves reported
Maybe what we’re all so enamored with about the Central Library is that it isn’t a library so much as the best of all possible nightclubs, a romantic (yes! in the middle of all that modernism!) place where you might actually meet someone smart and fall in love right away and for forever.
How cool is that?!
Don’t think our National Library will ever be turned into a nightclub for a night (or maybe it might), but it has definitely being used for quite different purposes than a library.
There have been a few TV commercials that have been filmed in The Pod. There have been book launches and MOU signings happening there as well. And I think the one to top it was that the filming of this year’s National Day Message was done in The Pod. You can catch the nice panoramic view of the Singapore skyline while you listen to the National Day Message.
I know the library@orchard and library@esplanade have been used for mini-concerts. There were quite a bit of partying (without the booze) at library@orchard last year when they, in conjunction with STOMP, invited local bands to perform over a period of 6 weeks.
So, is your library as ‘happening’?

Hey, I’m all for booze if not for “the powers that be”. As well as the club idea… booze + books + smart strangers, sounds like a good formula! could be an idea for the new OC (the adult one ;p)!
